French carmaker Renault is bullish on the Indian Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) market, which continues to grow rapidly.
Renault India vice president Rafael Treguer said the domestic SUV space was on a growth trajectory as customer preference was changing towards bigger and sturdier cars.
“The Indian car market is slowly shifting to SUVs as customer preference undergoes reorientation,” he said at the launch of Renault Captur in Lucknow recently.
On the decrease in car sales during October 2017 despite it being a festival month, he observed that although there was a blip, it was temporary over the recently implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) irritants.
He maintained in the long run GST would prove to be beneficial and help the Indian economy, including the auto sector.
Meanwhile, Renault has about 300 showrooms in India, which the company plans to expand further to capitalise on its position as a premium SUV maker. He promised that the company would increase the localisation percent in its future cars and SUVs.
The new SUV Renault Captur has a starting price tag of about Rs 10 lakh and seeks to create a unique vehicle class, led by its stunning expressive design, premium & class-leading features, innovative technology, offered at an outstanding price enabling an unmatched value proposition.
Treguer said Renault Captur delivers on the company’s promise of bringing the best from Renault’s global product range to India. “It sets new benchmarks with its global styling and unmatched road presence, further strengthening our position in the burgeoning SUV segment.”
Renault Captur’s expressive design is accentuated by its Innovative Lighting Systems (ILS), which combines iconic design with cutting-edge technology, providing high impact illumination while being highly energy efficient.
