Domestic consumer electronics major Intex Technologies is investing Rs 1,500 crore in its multi-product Greater Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh.

Initially, the unit at Kasna spread over 20 acres would manufacture washing machines and refrigerators. A major portion of the committed investment has already flowed to the plant.

“As per our roadmap, the unit would start manufacturing washing machines by December 2018 and by end 2019, the production of refrigerators would also commence,” Intex business head (consumer durables) Jayesh Parekh said here recently.

The company also owns units at Himachal Pradesh and at Jammu & Kashmir for manufacturing flat panel TVs and speakers respectively for the domestic and export markets.

“We fully support both ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make in UP’ initiatives and our investments stand testimony to this belief,” he underlined.

Meanwhile, Intex has launched a ‘Free-to-Air’ 32 inch LED TV 3208 for smaller towns and semi urban domestic markets. Almost 50 percent of the flat TV market is accounted for by the 32 inch segment. The TV comes with a remote control that works both for the TV and the inbuilt set-top box.

The TV has inbuilt Parabolic Dish Antenna, which allows all the free to air channels to beam without the need of set-top box or monthly charges. “The product primarily targets the rural and semi-urban population both in terms of affordable pricing and value proposition.”

However, the customers have the option to install separate external set-top box to subscribe to other paid channels, Parekh added.
