Bhopal : Another person accused in the Vyapam scam allegedly committed suicide at his home in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, yet another death in a spate of fatalities linked to the multi-crore scandal.

Pravin Yadav, who hung himself, was under stress after being repeatedly questioned by the police and the CBI, his family has alleged. Regular appearances at the Madhya Pradesh High Court also took their toll, they said.

Yadav had cleared Pre-Medical Test in 2008-09 and was named as an accused by a Special Task Force which was investigating the scam in 2012-13.

According to his family, he had turned a recluse in the last few days and unemployment added to his problems.

Maintaining that Yadav was innocent, one of his family members said, “Pravin was a bright scholar and got into PMT on his own without any help. He was maliciously framed in the scam.”

A case has been registered and an investigation has been launched, an officer from Civil Lines Police Station said.

Close to 45 people connected in some capacity to the scam have died mysteriously since the scam unfolded in 2013. In July 2015, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, under pressure from Congress, recommended a CBI probe into the case.

The scam pertains to massive irregularities in admission and recruitment in the Professional Examination Board of MP, known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam. Hundreds of candidates were allegedly extended unfair benefits in entrance tests by Vyapam officers, and aided by politicians and middlemen.
